Peridot - August Birthstone

The Word peridot comes from the Arabic “faridat”, which means “gem”. This August birthstone was valued in many ancient and medieval cultures as a protective talisman, shielding the owner from evil spirits and “terrors of the night”. Known now as the stone of compassion, peridot is believed to bring good health, restful sleep and peace to relationships by balancing emotions and mind.
Peridot will never change its color no matter under which lighting conditions it is seen. The color range for peridot is narrow, from a brown-green color to yellowish green to pure green. Yellowish green is the most common peridot color seen in jewelry.
Peridot is also the gem that commemorates a couples 16th wedding anniversary.
